Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)
ANPs are highly skilled Senior Nurses with advanced clinical skills, allowing them to:
• Take a full medical history
• Carry out physical assessments and examinations
• Make a diagnosis and carry out treatment
• Prescribe medicines
• Arrange follow up treatment
• Refer patients for investigations

ANPs may see patients with frailty, learning disability, acute or long term illnesses such as COPD, rather than a GP. Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) have undergone intensive additional training and education. They are qualified to masters level.
